My husband of five months (living together 2 1/2 years) wants to adopt my 14 year old daughter and so does she. I have full custody as her father relinquished his rights when she was a baby. He has never paid child support. I keep reading that I have to wait, but is my case any different. Also, how costly and / or lengthy is this procedure? Thank you for any help!

If his parental rights were terminated then he should not be paying support for a child that LEGALLY isn't his. Do you mean his VISITATION rights were terminated?

No, the real father terminated all his parental rights. I was just pointing that out in case that information was pertinent to my new husband wanting to adopt her. Any advice? Thanks!

Normally it's not possible for a parent to terminate their parental rights if there is not a step parent standing by to adopt, unless he was criminally unfit/abusive.

There can be some exceptions to that however, in some states.

You are really asking the wrong people since we don't know exactly what the facts are.

The best thing for you to do will be to get a consult with a local adoption attorney. If you have any court orders at all, be sure to take those to the consult with you.
