What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? AZ

We normally prepare legal documents for people, but a personal friend asked this question and we needed some information. She and her current husband live in Southern Arizona and her ex-husband lives in Northern Arizona. She and her ex-husband have a child together who has lived with her and her current husband for the last 4 years. In fact, her ex has paid child support, but hasn't seen her in the 4 years. Her current husband would like to adopt her child and that is what she would like too. Her ex-husband said he is all good with that, but only if it will completely relinquish him of any further responsibility. He wants to be guaranteed he won't have to continue paying child support. I told her I thought her husband could adopt with consent from her ex-husband, but to seek out legal advice. What are her options? And, is that true if her ex consents to the adoption he would no longer be financially responsible for their child? That is what everyone involved wants.

Thanks in advance.

If husband adopts, Dad (or, ex-Dad) no longer has rights OR obligations.

She will need an adoption attorney, period.

Let's start with: 'Who are"we'?

What is "our" professional capacity?

What state are "we" professionally licensed in?

Why is your "personal friend" unable to ask here herself?

We (here) can carry on from the answers to those questions.
