Illinois. I would like to adopt my 23 year old step daughter who has had no relationship with her bio dad in 15 years. Is this something I can do on my own or must I get a lawyer? TY

It shouldn't be too difficult although an initial consult with an attorney to go over the procedure wouldn't hurt.

Not sure what the point would be though, in all honesty.

It always amazes me how many people want to do adult adoptions. One can handle just about anything that might come up with a properly executed will and living will. I just don't get why anyone would be spending money on the adult adoption.
