My husband and I have a serious problem and need help and advice. My in laws have a home in Southern California and are in their 80's. They are both in poor health. My father in law has made out a will, but my mother in law refuses to even take about it. She is paranoid, and thinks that everyone is trying to take her home away from her. She's a housewife from the 50's and has no idea how to even pay a utility bill. She has no understanding about things like home owners insurance, property tax, or even the cost of living. We have both tried to talk to her about it, but she clams up and refuses to even listen. What makes things worse is that my brother in law, her eldest son is in his 50's, still lives and home and doesn't or has never worked. He is abusive to both his parents and thinks that when they die he will automaticly get the house. What little money she has, she gives to him. We have tried to talk to her about getting a restraining order against him to get him out of the house, this too has fallen on deaf ears. How can we get power of attorney to protect her from herself? We are very concerned about the situation and don't know what to do. Please help.
