i liv ein texas and i was wondering what age i have to be to move out... i know that people say that you can move out when you are 17 but whoever you live with can be at risk for harboring a runaway...is that true even tho you go to live with someone in your family so you can see a dying family member anytime you want to? if so that really sucks cause i want to move out of my moms and live with my aunt so i can see my dad anytime i want to....

Hon... if you don't know what cogent or emancipation mean - you're not ready to be out on your own.

I totally hear ya. Young people come to adults asking one simple question to get one simple answer and instead they recieve degrading comments. Grow up a little, huh?

Emancipation is where the courts determine that you are mature enough and have the means to survive on your own outside your parents/guardians care. It is not easy to obtain. You have to prove maturity to a judge. And usually u have to have a steady job and a reliable place to live.
Why cant u just sit down and ask ur mom politely if u can go be with your dad for a while. If hes dying ask her to let you spend some time with him so u can remember him when he dies. If you are reasonable and act like an adult and not a 2 yr old im sure she will listen. That means no yelling or throwing a fit and if she says no--u only have 1 more year till you are 18 and can make ur own decisions

Age

The age I was told by teachers and a cop was that you COULD move out when you where 17 as long as you where attending school. And if your parents tried to make you come home they couldnt as long as you attend school. I am going to be 17 in 5 months and am wanting to leave.

I have a friend whos bro just left when he was 17 and when her mom called the cops they said that they couldnt do anything unless he wasnt attending school. thats one reason i know. and another was that the teacher said that they had a cast were a student left and the cops came up to the school and said that they just needed to call home to let them know that they were ok but that they didnt have to go home because they were still going to school.

Well good luck. You've certainly covered the legal information bases.

By the way, make sure that, if you have a medical problem, you use the same expert sources as you have for legal issues.
