What is the name of your state? Ms.
this is for a friend of mine. He is planning on getting a divorce.
while he was married 22 years he had a good income. A $200,000.00 house. a buiness, $100,000.00 in the bank. They lived pretty good.
He had seperated from his wife 4 years ago. He lost everything, the business, the bank account, and their house since it was attacked to the SBA loan. He left his wife with everything they had left and paid her in the past 4 years about $30-$40,000.00 in support on his own. He had 1 child left at home. He pays her now about $300.00 a month child support on his own.
Since he has no money and no job, or a job that pays very little when he does work. Is there still a possibility after not being together for 4 years that she can still get any kind of alimony?
thank You

Probably, he may can get it limited to a certain amount of time but because he has been paying her it shows he knows she needs it in order to survive and could be used both ways.

That is pretty much what i have been hearing, but since he is not making much money now and for the past 6 months only paying her child support on his own of $300.00 a month.
Physically he is not capable of making that money anymore, She had got everything they owned togather but his personal belongings. Will they take that into consideration? Or do they just pretty much look at what she needs?

My Son just went threw that, Your friend will have to pay and maybe more. They can't take her thing's away from her, If she need's it he will pay.
My son had to go back to court and he was hoping to lower the payment's.Instead they up it twice as much and he was not working at the time. The courts do not care. He has to pay all back payment to her for being late.
He is back to work thank goodness. He even has a 2nd. Family that they do not count. They went in to her bank account and got the money from her only because they are married. I was in shock when I heard that. I had know idea that they could do that.

Wow! that is so unfair!
I just can't believe the court sytem don't take that stuff into consideration!
Are these judges insane?
How long does your son have to pay her alimony for?
Did they set a certain time frame?

My daughter in-law did not work and they have 4 kid's, They were married 8 or 9 years so he has to pay half of there married life together and Child support. I think he pay's her around $1200. A month maybe a little more then that .I know after going back to court it was a big amount. His New wife has to work, She has a daughter and they have two kid's of there own now. He tryed to get it lowerd and his ex got her self a lawyer to stop it. I can't blame her. She need that money .Then after it was over he had to pay her lawyer. Well, I told him not to marry young and after the 2nd child I told him he need's to get fixed . He is paying for it now. Kid's Having Kid's.. Now he is 34
