Pre-existing condition? Isn't that only in insurance law? 
While we don't know the ages of the children, it sounds like there could be a fair amount of child support, and reading the Kansas law, I don't see any reason she wouldn't be awarded separate maintenance for 121 months or longer. The fact that someone is turned down for disability doesn't mean they aren't disabled. Additionally, even if she weren't working simply because she was a stay-at-home mom, she would be given time to get back on her feet IF she could. If she can't, the 121 months might even be extended.
I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that the wife in a marriage of over 10 years is entitled to share in her husband's credits for SS, when the time comes. He will still receive the same amount, but she will also get half of what he is being paid.
The property will be equitably divided, so hopefully there is good equity in a house that will be of assistance in retirement. Presumably, with so many children, it could be a pretty large house?
My real question is WHEN did the world change so much that we no longer consider six children a real job? And they are his children too. I seriously doubt she could have even covered childcare and the extra taxes with the emt job.
