What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? indiana

i went back to a new name, same management job i had worked at for 14 yrs prior to its closing 2 yrs ago.(same employee # and everything)

i was put in an area that i thought i could get a better paying postion, than where i was suppose to be hired in at. (ok fine) only when it was time to fill the top paying postion i didn't get it because i can't weld. the person that got it can weld , but don't know any of the other jobs.(which i held a lead postion for 7 yrs prior that required welding .(same bosses i had when place closed so they know, i know what to look for)) but i am required to teach this person making more money than me how to do their job(still comes to me). i have protested with no results(went thru all management personal with no luck),even signed other bid jobs with no luck, because i have knowledge in this area,( i feel my name is being removed from the posting) what can i do other than quiting (stupid me i like my job)(which i can't afford to quit while i find new employment). have even told them go ask your lead person, but they get sent back to me cause the lead can't answer the questions either and i don't want to get fired for insubordination, so i answer them. so other than quitting what can I do?

Put up with it?

It is not illegal to "discriminate" against someone on the basis of ability to weld.

I can understand why you find the situation uncomfortable but on the basis of the facts in your post no laws have been broken and you have no legal options.

I don't get it. If the job requires welding skills and you can't weld, why do you think you should have had the job? It may not be a lot of fun training the guy who did get the job but frankly, if you do it with good grace and help out willingly as necessary, that will only put you in a good light with management and that won't exactly hurt your career prospects.

If you need to learn welding or other industrial skills, virtually any technical college in your area will offer those sorts of courses and they often have evening classes for working adults.

"i'm not helping out anymore. doing my job and my job only."

Oh, yeah, that attitude's really going to impress upper management. They're really going to want to promote someone who's made it clear they're not interested in helping the company.

You do what you want, but don't be surprised when you don't get picked for the next promotion, either.

i told them i wasn't going to help him out anymore, they said thats fine. there is more to this department than just welding and others do the welding off blue prints, which in the real near future the welding is being done away with. and any new hires that come in i'm expected to to train them when he is getting paid for the job. i just don't understand the part if i was good enough to do the same job for 7yrs (prior company same management) why not now?
