Everyone here is correct... you can't avoid confrontation without getting bullied. My family has been through this for the last six years. I've learned a lot, yes your neighbor can view a no trespassing sign as harassment. Ours actually cited it on a restraining order request. You neighbor can view anything as harassment... The question is what will the courts see as harassment?
You must document everything, one of the things we learned is that filing complaints with the police are crucial, not because they will actually do anything about it, they probably wont, but it creates a paper trail. This is the same reason you want everything in writing. This is also the same reason you want to keep a detailed journal...
Our neighbor still threatens to sue us for harassment, over a dozen times now that we have documented. The thing is if it ever does go to court we have a paper trail a mile long. Get copies of everything relating to it...
And I truly understand your desire to save money, my Grandmother felt the same way. She chose to sue them in small claims court on the elder fraud charges instead of making a big deal. She was awarded $1500 six years ago. She figures she is now out over $15,000 total from her attempts to save money. They just nickel and dimed her to death.
Good luck, just don't be a wimp... it will cost you big time in the long run...
