What is the name of your state? Maryland

I'm switching legal counsel and I asked my attorney for my final bill as well as my file that has all my papers in it. She said that I would have to pay for my file. Is that the norm? I thought a legal file was like a medical file--- that if you ask for it, you should get it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Medical files -- you are allowed to be charged for copies -- some places charge $1.00 per page.
The attorney can charge you for WORK PRODUCT copies because that is her work.

Let me clarify -- the attorney should return all of OPs documents to OP -- meaning anything OP brought to her, the attorney returns to OP. She MAY charge for copying to give him COPIES of HER work product -- meaning anything she wrote and filed with the court.
