my ex told me that since the i-129 is filed, he can not get a tourist visa to visit during the process.
is this true as far as the US laws are concerned or is it an australian thing.

It's an urban legend.
If he applies for entry (think the Australians use the VWP), he should bring sufficient proof of ties to his home country/assurances that he will return home and will comply with the terms of his NON immigrant entry. And then he should be sure to comply.
He is not obligated to mention the I-129f at his entry, but he should assume that "they" know he is in the process of immigrating.

i offered my help and she accepted. she expressed her concern about the health issue so i am checking into it.

look, i truly believe that this whirlwind romance of hers isnt gonna work for reasons too numerous to list....but she is still the mother of my 2 daughters and i truly have no hidden agenda to screw up her journey to happiness. i am also not paying any alimony, so there is no financial incentive for me to hurry the process along.
she is doing the paperwork by herself and not using an attorney, although i told her she should get one. she has no time to research this process and i have all the time in the world. yes, we are still very good friends and do want to see her happy in life.
btw, i am in nm, she and my girls are in ca
