What is the name of your state? Texas/Michigan

Michigan uses the income of both parents to determine child support amounts.

My question is... does the state count adoption subsidies as income? If so, because the money is tax free... would they say that the gross amount is equal to the net amount?

I know they don't count foster care subsidies but I am wondering about actual adotption.
Any websites with this specific answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm from MI! :D

edit: Ooops, I hit the post button on accident.

ANYways! See section II, sub section 33. Here's a sample:

"Adoption Subsidy - standard/basic needs portion for child(ren) in case under consideration
(see Section B. Children's Income, for exceptions)."

Section B: "The medical needs and intensive rate portion of the Adoption Subsidy and all of the Family
Support Subsidy shall not be considered as income. These subsidies are excluded as public policy has
identified them as necessary for meeting special emotional and physical needs of children and families."

Does this help at all???? :p

Thanks Lyle

The link did answer my basic question they do count susidies.

I am a little confused though.

Section B: "The medical needs and intensive rate portion of the Adoption Subsidy and all of the Family
Support Subsidy shall not be considered as income.

Isn't the all subsidy either for the medical needs of the child or family support? I will have to search deep to find out what portion they are counting.

I have information on what they pay for adopting kids in MI, just don't know how they break it down. It is probably one of those things that only the government knows so that they can make it up as they go and tell each person something different about the amount that they took. Ex just threw out a threat yesterday about more CS. Hubby told her that they will count her subsidies and she said "no they won't" He told her to dream her little dreams and asked to speak to the kids. lol She is bringing in at least $4000.00 a month tax free in subsidies and proably another $1500.00 or so in foster money that is not counted.

Thanks for the info
