What is the name of your state? WA

Hi,
Looked at a lot of pages here, have not found anything about my "could be" complicated question.
Here it goes:
I'm a permanent resident in the US for over 17 years. Now I'm thinking about applying for citizenship. No arrest, or any criminal history what so ever.
However on the form for citizenship there is a question about IRS taxes.
Something like, do I owe any taxes and has it been solved. something like that.
For a few years now I have not even filed may taxes. So therefore I do owe taxes. The IRS is not asking any questions. So far noone knows but me.
What do I write in that area of the form?
Do they check this?

yes, they will check this. Why don't you first straighten out the IRS issue by filing and PAYING any owed taxes and only then file for your citizenship.

**A: thanks. The US needs more foreigners like you; non citizens paying no taxes.

Back taxes

Hey Brainstorm! I had back taxes over a four year period to the tune of $21,000, as a result of off shore and other investments that I had whilst I was living and employed illegally in the US. Since this was assessed on my dividend earning I had no choice but to declare the total earnings and pay the amount owed. I was not charged a penalty or interest even though I had a four year back tax problem. Now how kind can the IRs be as is sufficiently evident proofed by my experience. I strongly urge you to pay all taxes owed to the relevant authorities as it is not worth it to not pay your taxes and end up with problems including and not limited to asset seizure. Best of luck to yuh!

Thanks for the fast responses to all of you.

What exactly do they check? Reason I'm asking, because I have no collection from the IRS, they never questioned, or audited me about anything.
so therefore no paperwork on any back taxes or liens or anyithing at all.
I understand that it should be the other way around, taking care of the tax part first and then apply, however in my situation this would be the more promising way. In other words I could take care of my taxes faster after I'm a citizen.
Thanks again for the responses.

I don't mean to offend You, or pick a fight with You.
You don't know my situation.
let's leave it at that

You are answering questions and then signing and therefore attesting that all responses are true. If you are misrepresenting the facts as they exist, this is possibly a greater penalty than if you just disclose it. So, therefore, I would suggest that you either come clean and explain your failure to pay taxes or take care of it before you file for citizenship. Otherwise, you are possibly facing much greater penalties.
