I have a 15 year old girl who says when she turns 16 she and some of her friends are going to get an apartment together. Doesn't she need my permission for that until she turns 18?

Also, according to the divorce decree my ex actually has "physical custody" with us both having "joint legal custody". So would my ex have any say as to whether she can move out of my house or not?

My daughter decided to live with me because I made a lot more money than my ex and my lifestyle is much, much different from hers. My daughter likes my house better and everything. Now she had made a whole lot of friends here. She is not happy living with me because of my girlfriend that lives with me. We consider her my daughter's step-mom even though we are not married. My daughter and her do not get along at all. But, my daughter doesn't want to move back with her mom now because she doesn't want to leave her friends (she's lived with me since the beginning of summer last year, almost a year).

So my daughter's solution to getting to stay here, but not have to deal with her step-mom is to get her own apartment. I don't want her to, and I know her mom will not want her to. But can we legally stop her?

Thank you for your advice.

My response:

Sit back. Take a deep breath. Now, let it out. Breathe deep, now let it out.

Okay, your daughter isn't going anywhere. It's a nice fantasy, but she's not getting an apartment. Why? Because she's still a minor, and there's no one who will rent to a minor - - at least not without a parent signing the lease contract, and you said that you don't want her moving out, and you said, "I know her mom will not want her to."

So, let her fantasize about it. Hell, just to keep the peace, you can even "agree" with her, and placate her by saying, "yes, yes, you'll be getting your own apartment with your friends - - next subject!"

Not that

NO, like whether my ex will try to get her to stay with her when she visits during the summer. The ex is aways trying to get her to stay every time she visits.

Yeah, I know. Unfortunate, but I know. The little beady-eyed ba$tard lied to the American people just like that son-of-bitch Nixon did back in 1971. Ah, how soon we forget our history! "Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it." And, in the last election, the people "forgot" and the Iraqis war is dooming us, both financially and morally.

Somebody better put a sign on Bush's desk - - "It's the economy, Stupid!"

"So come on all of you big strong men, Uncle Sam needs your help again. Got himself in a terrible jam, way down yonder in Viet Nam! Put down your books, pick up a gun, we're gonna have a whole lotta fun! And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn - - my next stop is Viet Nam! And it's five, six, seven, open up the Pearly Gates! Well, there ain't no time to wonder why, whoopie we're all gonna die!"

My further response:

Mark my words, people - - Iraq is just like a vacuum. The moment we leave, Democracy will fly right out the window, and the Arab elements will "rush" right in, like air in a vacuum, and the whole place will go back to the way it was pre-war.

Our dead will have died for nothing.

I agree! I just keep remembering that in four years, it's over. However, the autocracy could live on the the Bush twins could hold office next!

I don't think that a Dem is going to be in the White House next term. They are too disorganized and have no agenda. The party needs to re-invent itself to sell itself better.

My response:

Speaking for myself, I don't care if our next president is Democratic or Republican (although I'd prefer the latter). My whole point in my comments was that I don't want a LIAR in office. I don't want someone who has an agenda to vindicate their father for their father's failure.

9/11 was merely an "excuse" (as it turned out) to go after Saddam Hussein, and to try to "sell" the American people on the WMD theory. Well, guess what? There were no WMD. Conclusion? Iraq was an excuse to vindicate Daddy's failure in 1991. Our boys and girls are paying the price.

And, in the long term scheme of things, what the hell are we getting for OUR billions of dollars getting spent?

Can it be possible that the threat did exist (or might have been wrong about it) and that you might be wrong about the whole Daddy failure bit? Now, IAAL, think for a bit. I mean, what keept us from going to Baghdad the first time? The fire power was there, the man power was there, the momentum was there, so why not go? Could it have been that the idea the first time around was to LIBERATE KWAIT, not to invade Baghdad. What was there to avenge? Perhaps nothing. I remember the "we are not mercenary's speech". Or is it something else?
