I'm an Army 27D who just went AWOL from PCS leave. JAGs-how would you treat this if one of your 27D's did this? I'm looking for advice on the best way to turn myself in/deal with this.

I know about the procedures at Ft. Knox and Ft. Sill...and I've hired an attorney. I'm just wondering my case will be treated the same as everyone else since I'm a paralegal.

They will probably go out of there way to treat you the same as everyone else. Do what Shorty said and use the sticky at the top of the board. Better yet talk to your attorney. After all that is what you are paying him/her for.

twist? what twist? how does being an army paralegal make you any different than any other RA soldier? how will a lawyer see that you receive a decent discharge? certainly not going to be honorable as your AWOL, however, you might still be able to save yourself from a BCD or OTH if you go back now and deal with your chain of command.

how much longer is your enlistment? 2 ... 3....4 years? how much better could you make your life in 2 years if you were no longer in the military? what would you be doing with your life? going to college? working in another job? going to grad school?

your going the hard route in my opinion unless something has seriously gone wrong with your time in the service. are you being raped by your sgt? beaten? i mean in such cases, i could certainly see an individual going awol, however, if you're just tired of the service as its too boring for you then perhaps you might consider that its must easier than the pain of carrying a black mark for the rest of your life. you may very well be able to hide it quite well from others, but as an individual you will always know that you have given up. its not an easy thing to live with. ask anyone that has gone the ft.sill route and wears the OTH merit badge.

Wouldn't have much input

I got off of active duty in the JAG Corps this summer. My first thought is that while I may be asked my input as to whether you were an otherwise good soldier, the HHC Commander is going to be the first decisionmaker in the process (unless there is an appicable witholding policy in place). The JAG will not have much say in most cases. If you worked in crim law shop or were a brigade paralegal, they will probably get another office to handle the case/offer advice to avoid appearance of impropriety.That being said, it will be proceessed like any other case most likely. Depending on the command, most likely an Art. 15 and a Chapter (unless you want to stay in, in which case just the Art. 15).

The only thing that may happen is bc of your job, if you were otherwise great, and had a compelling explanation for your AWOL, they may make everything locally filed. Otherwise, I can't see you having a future career. Many facts will impact your case like your grade, succesful deployments, other disciplinary history, etc.
