What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

Daughter lives in NY, I live in FL.

Long story short, I gave up my parental rights to my my daughter when she was 7 years old because at the time mom convinced me it was the best thing for her. However I would still be able to have a relationship with her (all verbal agreement with mom). As it turns out over the years I ended up being in and out of her life because of course mom would only allow me to see her/be with her whenever it was convenient for mom, always threatening to call the cops if I didn't abide by what she wanted. Four years ago I moved to florida, during the time when I was having an on again period of communication with my daughter within a few short months mom cut the communication off again. A few months ago my daughter began to text/chat and call me but against her mothers wishes and behind her mothers back. I recently sent her some money via transfer to her bank account and her mother saw it and is now threatening to call the cops on me and claim harassment. My daughter is terrified and I'm not sure of what she can actually accomplish if she does go to the cops. Advise please? My daughter is 17 years old and will be 18 in August.

When your child is of legal age, you can have contact with her. Until then, you need to follow Mom's wishes.

Are you the father? If so, how did you give up your parental rights? Is "mom" an adoptive mother and you are the biological mother? Please clarify.

I read it to be that the OP is the biological father.

Maybe...but if that is the case he needs to be clearer about things. If someone else adopted the child its a much more serious issue than if he just gave up his custody rights.

OP didn't say custody rights. OP said PARENTAL rights. Which is the confusion. Maybe OP is bio mom and "mom" is adoptive. I don't know. But I want to know what was done and how before I answer.

I am bio dad, gave up my rights in court when daughter was younger. She lives with mom. Moms ex husband adopted her.

Contact her in August.

There is nothing enforceable about the verbal agreement and mom doesn't want you to have anything to do with her right now.

I could very well see a situation where innocent gifts or money sent against parental wishes to a minor could be very legally problematic for the sender.

Let her. You reply the contact was initiated by your daughter and you had no order forbidding contact. The Christmas gift was exactly that.

Until someone from law enforcement contacts you, don't worry.

People talk... stuff... all the time. Especially estranged exes.

If the police call you, say nothing and get a lawyer.

Don't contact the mom anymore or call the child until she is no longer a minor.
