How much water did you go into? You have to go into allot for this to happen and your lucky you didn't hydrolock the block otherwise you be out an engine. Did you sit stalled in the water for any length of time?

It was about to the top of the tires. No it did not sit in the water, I made it through to dry ground before it stalled.

If they changed the tranny fluid during your Level II ... where did the water come from?

My point exactly!!!!!

What year is your car? You have a manual trans correct? Allot of problems crop up on your car at 30k to 60k.

2001. Manual. I was not having any problems prior to this. It was obvious that this was when it started. BMW even said it was due to the water.

Also, msiron, thanks for the link, but it does not apply to my car, mine is an E46 M3 (not the transmission used in this car).

free fluid change?

"That day they wanted to charge me to replace the transmission fluid ~$140. I told them that that was ridiculous and they agreed to replace it for free and see if that solved my problem."............Do you seriously expect them to change your tranny fluid for free? Something is fishy here.

That is a VERY GOOD point. :) They never argued that the water being in the transmission for a period of time while driving it was the reason that it was damaged. They just said they did not know how it got in there and that it wasn't their fault. They just kept saying "when I drove back through water". I guess they think I have to drive through a creek to get to work everyday. I never drove through any other water. It had to be the water from when I originally brought it to them.

It costs $100 to change the tranny fluid in a chevy so $140 on a beamer isnt all that high. If the dealer would have done their job thoroughly yes they should have drained the tranny and refilled it.........but you decided the price was too high. You cant just stick your finger in the oil fill plug and accurately check for water. Oil is lighter than water.
