What is the name of your state? New Jersey.

My boss accused me of stealing and told me to "get out now"! So I called the cops, he told the cops I was stealing but he had no proof! Imagine my embarrasment at being called a thief in front of local authority!

Anyway, my question is do I have a case against my ex-boss for falsely accusing me of stealing and making me out to be the less-than law abiding citizen that I am? Or do I have to hang my head in shame everytime I walk past the local police department?

It was your choice to involve the police. You can not now profit from any 'reaction' they may have. Move on and next time don't be so stupid.

Your'e kidding right?

So if a person gets accused of - let's say child molestation or sexual harrassment- they should just move on and hope that their reputation remains in tact? Do you realize that this boss is probably saying the same to future prosepective employers? This person did the right thing- call the cops and have the accusations on record. Is there a lawyer that might know what repercussions there are for bosses who make false accusations? The firing as well as the future negative references can definitely affect a person livlihood.

So you're willing to take on such a case? Oh, please tell me you're an attorney and this response is based on your complete review of the facts including relevant case law.
