boyfriend adoption in michigan

i am twenty,and i have a two year old son. when i got pregnant i did not know who the father was. i told them both one left one stayed. after i had my son me abd the one that stayed had a paternity test done and found out that he wasnt his. i called the other on to let him know and he didnt care he didnt/doesnt want to be a dad. now because i was on public ass. they have went after him for child support. my boyfriend(the one that stayed) is still here wants to adopt my son. we are planning on getting married just not for a while. and the real father doesnt want to pay support and said that he will give up his rights. is there any way that my boyfriend could adopt my son, hes the one whos been paying for him for the last two years. please help me.
