What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? New York but California state order

I owed my X child support totalling $31,350 (that's from the date of the order until my daughter turned 18) I have paid her $32,437.34. That equals out to be about $1,100.00 more than what I owed her. California wants another $18,500.00 (they charge interest on top of interest and it never stops) more an amount that I'll never be able to pay off in my lifetime. (and they wonder why there is such a problem with collecting arrears in that state...so much so they have done studies on it...GO FIGURE) I still have 2 kids both under the age of 16 living with me. I have been unemployed for 5 years (due to a work related injury) and have looked every where for a job. Thank God I have an understanding wife who supports this family. But quite frankly the interest California has charged is out and out theft. If I stop paying (actually if my wife stops giving me $5.00 a week to pay this) I have my licences taken away. Right now I am the one responsible for driving the kids to school, sports events, and the doctor so my wife doesn't miss any work. Now tell me, how is that going to help me pay for the interest any faster? All it does is hurt 2 other kids and makes my wife miss work without pay. Then lets say I still don't pay...I get a free ticket to jail....wow that helps pay the interest! All that does is provide 2 more kids with a single parent household, and even less of a chance to find a job.

Yes I tried to get to court to tell them whats going on but 1. New York says I have to go to California and 2. When I try to work things out with California they just tell me tuff. (of course we don't have the money to fly to California, I have to do it by phone) I have no incentive to pay anything else...they have taken all I have and then some. There is only so much blood a person can give. Is there really any hope of fixing this?

Since you've been sitting on your ass for five years why should you be treated any different than any other deadbeat dad?

Any other sob story you want to try?

You're a real tomato. You were over $31,000 in arrears which equals out to approximately $1,700 a month in child support for 18 years. So you basically totally blew off your first kid(s) their entire lifetime, went on to have more, and then finally when the law caught up with you, you complain that you accidently overpaid a measly $1,000, and By God, how unfair that your 2 new kids are suffering becasue of your failed obligation to support your other kids you had first? Of course you're going to be charged interest on a huge 18 year old debt - that debt is no different than if you defaulted on your mortgage or credit cards. You put the entire financial burden on your ex for 18 years while you selfishly made a new life producing more kids. And then place preference on the new kids' needs? You're a deadbeat in every sense of the word and are continuing the cycle of abuse by now living off a new wife with a $5.00 allowance - boo hoo. If you can drive a car to chaparrone kids all day to school and activities, I guess you can find a real-paying job doing the same to pay off your debts - cab driver comes to mind! You get no sympathy here.

excuse me I was not a deadbeat father.....she was always paid her child support when I could work.....the only time she did not recieve the child support was when I had my operation....she even recieved most of my comp...payments then. I don't have a job because a doctor says I can only light duty work now and raises 2 kids is work. I have not been able to find a job here because I had a comp case and not even the independents are willing to take me on. So quite frankly no matter how you look at it....It is a rip off. And futher more I did try to take this to court a week before I went under the knife...my X wrote a letter saying not to lower my child support payments because I was cabable of making the support payments. Sure is nice that she got a doctors degree in the time we have been divorce and the courts think she knows more than the doctors.

Also I was not 31,350 in arrears.....that was just the total figure of what all child support added up to. I took that figure from the day that the order was file to the day my daughter turned 18 to show the exact amount altogether. I was never in arrears by that amount. So don't assume you know what is going on until you ask questions and get to know the details.

If you can drive you OTHER children to school, sports, and doctors appt. Why don't you go get a job driving a bus, cab, or van??? You seem well qualified for that type of job, and this way you would get paid more than $5.00 a week! fTo pay off your child support. Why don't you be extra nice to your wife and maybe she will give you $10.00 a week!!!! :D :D

So when did you get your comp settlement? That should have paid her in full...If you went through surgery.....you most likely got a very large cash settlement  As far as the back child support the interest will continue to grow and grow...for the ex she couldn't get a better investment if she tried...most banks offer 2% in Illinois it's 9% compounded annually for back child support...If I were you I would take out a loan and pay it off.......

rexgto~ I'm researching the topic of obligor parents for my fiance. Here's a web address to a California company that is reputed to help people deal with Child Support Services. I just learned about them, so I can't vouch for them.
http://www.childsupportliberation.com/

I just want to say that the people who come here to razz people with troubles are very unhelpful. Is there a moderator here?

just to let everyone know...we recieved a letter today from the state of New York support Collection unit whom we have worked with for all these years....the letter reads.....

Dear Francine Cruz,

I am writing to request information on how the above named respondent would go about having the interest removed from his case. This man has been on Workers compensation for many year with very limited income. He has paid his child support obligation in full and feels this interest charge is excessive due to his minimal income. Please advise how he can file to have same removed.

If you knew New York laws in regards to workers comp they don't pay off. In other words you don't get a final settlement. My case is still pending, and will be for the rest of my life. I live in an amish community and there is just no jobs....including taxi services.......New York child support collection unit was just as floored as we were when this notice came last week. They find it unreasonable also.....and they also thought we were on the last of this obligation. Also if you know anything about being in arrears you can't get a loan because the arrears are on your credit report. Not to mention no income.

Thanks for the tip on that website I'll check it out.....finally someone who has an inkling. Thank you

Why is support collection writing to you asking how to remove interest? Something makes no sense.

I just looked up attorneys in New York for Workmans Comp....Funny they mentioned settlements..........Maybe you need to contact one of them? What do you mean your case is still pending???? Are they still paying you??? If not call an attorney ASAP you have time limits to collect!

yes they are still paying medical, no they are not paying wages as I was given the ok to go back to light duty work.....no there is no jobs and here's a kicker.......I paid off the principle 2 and 1/2 years ago by my caculations...that is only 3 years after support orders expired. (by my daughter turning 18) Lots of money paid!!!! California still wants 18,500.00 it's still a rip off no matter what any woman says that has been burnt.
Believe me I sympathize with ya but enough is enough.....Yes I screwed up and I never believed for one minute that the X wasn't entitled to the support becuse she was, but hey there should be a limit to the greed.

Believe me if we were still together the kid would have gotten that $120 bike at walmart but just because we are no longer married means that she is entitled to buy that $600 dollar bike at the name brand bike shop. This is a medifore please don't take it for anything more than that.

And why should 2nd families live in proverty for the rest of their lives..doesn't that perpetuate the social service industry? Or maybe even the drugs that are so rampid in our country today? Or fathers going underground because an X has no statue of limitations for when she can ask for child support but as a father if you get into an accident and lay in a hospital bed near death...you don't get to the court of record to modify the support and even then it's not quarenteed that it will be....well you are just **** outta luck. HOW FAIR IS THAT? (more medifores so don't bother with your rude comments)

You want to read about something read the case study they did in regards to the arrears they can't collect in California. Or read what the congressional committee in Washington says in regards to arrears.

All I see is burn the fathers burn them! No matter how hard they try to pay make them pay some more. Break them down chew them up and spit them out......to bad they have other kids that need them too hey they shouldn't have had a second family......well life isn't always perfect sometimes 2nd families no problem then wammmmm you have an injury (**** happens) Punish the kids in the second family for even being born cuz they don't actually need a life.

There is hope though......for all you 2nd families out there.....wanna get back at all those people that are making the rude comments.....quess what you can live off their taxes. Many states will let you get on social services...they will help with those medical bills.....they will help put food on your table so go apply! Get that help! You become homeless? then go to social services and let them help you with finding a home.....can't afford the kids no more then foster care is there to help you....they will pay someone else to take care of them while you get back on your feet. Who cares if the child support system is unfair and unjust to fathers.....who cares the the unjust makes a new and growing problem with social services money problems its all relative.

Yes I am being major sarcastic but if you think for one minute that the social service thing doesn't happen.....then you are living in a cave.
