Illinois A friend of mine married a guy in prison. She is renting an apartment without a lease and now it is time for her newly married husband to be released from prison on parole. She had not notified her landlord in advance and now the landlord wants to terminate her tenacy and advise the parole board not to release the soon to be parolee to his building. Can the landlord do this?

If she is renting without a lease he can terminate her tenancy with the proper notice- for almost any reason.

The LL has the right to refuse to allow an ex-con to live on the property.

The LL does not need to give a reason to end a month to month tenancy.

1st point is not completely accurate.

2nd point is the only one that matters. LL still needs to give proper notice under the applicable laws of Illinois and any local laws.
