Speaking of hearsay, that's what this whole thread is. It's all based on what the Home Depot employee told the OP, who is not the one it all happened to.

Might want to read your employee handbook and see what you have already signed in terms of consenting to search while on the employer's property. Might be eye opening for you. :)

Employee handbooks mean nothing 99.99% of times. Does that mean they can search your home anytime? No. When you get fired and the handbook has procedures regarding firing that they did not follow, they always claim the handbook is not a contract.

Any employer wants to search my stuff? Best be ready to be arrested for theft or attempted theft.
And the police would likely tell you to pay a lawyer and sue the employer if you feel affronted, that is IF their actions constituted a tort of some kind and that is not a given.

An employer's search of your "stuff" would not be a crime in my state. I doubt it would be in any other state, either.

Correct. Hey I had $1000 in my backpack and now since you looked in it its gone. WHERE"S MY MONEY thief???
Ah, so you'd commit a crime to get back at the boss? Got it!

Of course, you might then have to prove that you had $1,000 in the pack to begin with.
