What is the name of your state?California

My live in boyfriend has a daughter that he hasn't been able to see for 7 or 8 years. he went to jail a year and a half after she was born for 5 years and they forced him to relinquish his rights... his parents and some of the mother's family members fought for custody, but, we believe she may have been adopted outside the family. the mother's mother still sees her occasionally and sends him pictures. is there any way for him to at least get some visitation? what can he do?

At this point, its hard to say. Let me let you in on a case close to me. My brother in law signed his rights over. After 14 years, he tried to contact the child. When the mother found out, she took him to court for violating a court order. Then Child Support Agency got involved, and nailed him for 57,000 dollars worth of back child support.Well, he got that dropped to about a years worth of back support. And he still doesnt get to see his child. BUT however, he can file for visitation rights. The father can file in court for visitation rights, but beware of the consequences that can be thrown back at him. He can be forced to pay back support. Ive seen it happen. But the possibilty of getting to see his child is not impossible. I would suggest consulting an attorney in your state to see what the options are.
