In Feb. of this year i got married, because of personal reasons from the both of us we decided my husband would like to take my last name, can he do that? where in the world do we start? we sent in the paperwork to S.S. like we would have done if i were changing my name but they denied him a new card.....what do we do now?????

He should be able to take your last name. Is there anything you left out, as to why they may have rejected the request?

That's really wierd that they didn't allow that. I know someone who did that because, in his own words, why should he keep the last name of a father who didn't want anything to do with him? So he took on his wife's last name. They eventually divorced and he took back his "maiden" name, lol.

the only thing i left out was that the letter we got from S.S. said we were missing court documents, everything was there that they told us to have if it were me changing my name instead of my husband so what other document do they need? why can't it be as simple for him to change his name as it is for a woman to change hers?????

Go to or call Social Security

letter we got from S.S. said we were missing court documents

Apparently you were missing something, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to take your last name. Just speak to someone at the Social Security office to find out what you left out.
