Sounds like the first thing you need to do is get a different 'adviser', since he seems to be the one that is forcing all these opinions on you.

Sounds like the boyfriend should go to.

Then, you need a real big dose of reality and maturity. Learn that YOU are responsible for your actions and that when you give your word to someone it should be your 'bond'.

I have answered your original questions about the legalities of your promises.

BTW, looking for a new 'advisor'??? I am not cheap, but I will also tell you what you NEED to hear, not necessarily what you WANT to hear.
