I had an Obama sign on my lawn around the election in 2008. Sometime after the election but before I had taken it down, someone replaced it with a bush sign. I was livid! But what could I do?? I got rid of it :)

Your (mis-spelled) signs are probably protected speech, so my guess is it's legal. That doesn't mean the powers-that-be won't try to stop you.

An ordinance prohibiting those signs may be unconstitutional, but until a court decides, the municipality will probably continue to enforce them.

And if his community has a home owner's association they may prohibit signs of ANY type. Also if he is renting, his landlord may prevent it. Those would be legal ways of preventing it.
