can my roommates get custody if something happens to me?

What is the name of your state? ny this is my first time posting here.im a single mother of 4 two sons 6yrs and 5 yrs and 2 daughters 2 yrs and 7 months.their father passed away in oct of 2003.if something were to happen to me,id like my roommates,who also have children with the same man,to assume custody of my kids.most of the kids family lives here,aunt uncles and cousins,and they have half siblings here also id like them to be able to stay in contact with.my parents live in massachusetts.and i have no prblem with them getting visitation,but i want the kids to stay here in the same town,going to the same school.im going to speak to a lawyer tommorrow and draw up a will giving tara and val(my roommates)custody of the kids should something happen to me.is this possible?they love the kids,and treat them like their own,and the kids love them.

Only if all of your blood relatives do not wish to take custody. Then your roommates will stand in line with the state and every other stranger who wishes to play the custody lottery

The only way for them to get custody of the children, is if no other blood relatives want custody(I think someone said that already) But you can make a WILL that states if something happens to you, and no other blood relatives want custody, then the state can leave the kids with them. But that is an iffie situation.

So when you go to the lawyer today , you will hear what Belize Breeze says and realize blood is thicker than kool-aid.

You and your little cult will see that the father's family and your family have first dibs. If for some reason , they( family) think it might not be their cup of tea to take care of the tots,( that you started having since 20 while he is having children with your roommates as well );the children will go into the system. Wards of the state. People who can be deemed appropriate and reliable and um... well not the usual suspects of cult behaviour will hopefully take them all at once, but this is not usual. Methinks your roommates might not be applicable... but there is a lady that knows about adoption here, she may put her 2 cents in.

So stay away from the kool-aid, fast moving busses, drugs, muggers (hard to do in NY). I would say find Kelly (aka lonelyandsad) she has the same month of birthday as you and likes baseball too. She could use an assistant I am sure. (all info from your profile) BUT! people seem to drop dead around her too, so thats not good. So stay alive!
Its good you care about the welfare of your children.. But go through the right channels... if this is a real situation.

But why would someone post the day before going to a lawyer? You will get your answers then, yes?
