Can Past Due Alimony be collected froma a deceased person's estate

My father never paid 50,000 worth of alimony or child support to my mom, he threatened to leave the country. I turned 18 im 1990, andit was still not paid. I paid for all of my own college and was not supported. My father did not mention me or mu sister in his will, thinking my stepmother would divide up his property for us. Well she refuses to give us anything. Can my mom sue for the past due support. They filed no grounds divorce in VA. They had all of the papers drawn up by attorneys but never went to court.

However, there are several applicable statutes of limitations and deadlines to meet.
