Can they make me pay it back ?

What is the name of your state? Im based in the UK.

I have recently finished working for a large telecommunications company on a years industrial work experience as part of my degree course. However since i have finished work they have continued to pay me the wage i was on while working for the company and i believe this to be due to originally i was going to be given a contract extension until the end of august and had signed a contract which later became void.

Anyway the question is if they keep paying me can they force me to pay back this money at any point ? or because its thier error can i refuse to pay it back to them. Do i need to notify them or is it just thier problem ?

In the US the answer is, yes, they can make you pay it back. The fact that it is their mistake means nothing whatsoever. If you refuse to pay it back they can sue you and they will win. If you're not entitled to the money, you're not entitled to the money. Period.

UK law may be different but no one here knows UK law.

I had occasion to speak to an expert on UK employment law today and I asked her this question.

Yes, you are legally obligated to pay it back under UK law too.
