What is the name of your state? Nevada

I have created a new cartoon concept for the television, and I am meeting executives from big companies in a few weeks to talk about the project.

I am a creative person, and have no clue about protecting my idea. Reading about it, it looks like I need to trademark or copyright the idea.

My 2 questions are, do I need to copyright or trademark? Also, what do I need to protect: the name, the concept, or both? Would that prevent big companies (Warner, Universal,...) to create a comparative concept under a different name?

Thank you for your help!

You can only copyright the expression of an idea. The concept/idea itself is not protected b y copyright.

You can only protect by trademark are marks and names used to distinguish goods in commerce.

There is a "Search" feature at the top of this forum page, in the yellow bar. Click on it and type in "protecting ideas copyright" where it says "Key Words". A list of posts will appear. Scroll down to the one titled "How Do I Do This?", posted by xDazedx. I think it will be the second post you come to.

The answer to how to protect your idea for a television show is spelled out pretty completely there.

Good luck with your idea!
