After speaking w/my ex's attorney & a local attorney, & taking a long time to think about it, I have decided that giving up my rights to my son would be a mistake. I thought that because we are 1000 miles apart and see each other only about twice a year, it would be easier for him to forget about me and get on with his life w/his stepfather. Fortunately, I have come to my senses.

I told my ex this yesterday. She is now telling me that if I don't give up my rights, she is going to have my child support raised. I have never had a problem supporting any of my children. I am paying the full amount that I have been ordered to (no arrearages). However, I cannot afford to have it raised. If she tried to have it raised, would the CSEA see that she is doing this soley for the purpose of trying to persuade me to give up my rights?

Also, I told her I want to set up the dates for my summer visitation. She is going on and on about how my son is terrified to come to OH to be with me. Several months after she moved to AL, she had the doctor put him on hydroxyzine which is a drug for anxiety (he was 1 yr. old at the time) She said he was having panic attacks. She stated this was because of being away from me. Now she says he has panic attacks and screams and cries when they mention visits with me. I'm afraid they'll put him back on that drug. Yet, I send e-cards, e-mail videos, and talk with him and they say he enjoys it. I do admit that the first 10 mins. I get my son, he does cry and acts scared. However, after that, he is fine. He's only 3 so I figure it's only natural to be scared at first. I went through the same thing with my father when I was a little older than he was.

Anyhow, I can see that she is going to try to use the cs and these so called panic attacks against me to try to get me to terminate my rights. Is there anything I can do about it?

Stand firm; stand proud.
child support is based on income related facts, not your ex's desire to have you disappear from your son's life.

I wish more dads had your stamina and devotion.
