We filed a chapter 13 in 1999. We choose chapter 13 so that everyone that we owed would get their money back. We didnt want anyone to be stuck with a bill. We only filed on $6000 but ended up paying over $10,000 after atty fees, which come off the top, and trustree fees etc. I would have suggested to anyone to consider a chapter 13 if you found yourself in trouble but after being denied employment in my field of work, I would say DONT DO IT. Although it is your right as an American to file, and even though you do EVERYTHING you are suposed to do and even though you pay everyone back every dime, you get screwed for the 13 years after its discharged not to mention the 4-5 years paying it off.

**A: did you pay back ALL your unsecured creditors ie. credit and charge cards etc.? If not, then there were creditors who got stuck with bills.

13 years ?? No, Ch 13's only stay on your credit report for 7, unlike Ch 7 which stays on for 10.

yes i got some bad advice from an atty who just saw us as another source of income for his new BMW payments! We didnt have much debt in the 1st place and YES ALL my creditors were paid back, there wasnt a one that was left behind. The whole process makes me sick.

Jenny, not to flame you, but please don't blast the process when it appears that it was you who did not do your homework.

It's easy to blame other people, but we are the ones who are ulitmatly responsible for the course of actions we take. There is TONS of free information available to anyone who makes an effort to find it.

Chapter 13 can be a great relief for people who may not qualify for a Chapter 7. Blaming what happened to you on the system is not a fair assesment, I would look inward to see how you can make sure you don't put yourself in that situation again.
