What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? West Virginia

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here goes.
I know this may not sound right to you guys, but I want to know if this particular action is legal, and if this is the best option for what I want to accomplish:

I am in the Navy, and have a 9 month old daughter. My wife is currently unemployed, and we are trying to buy a house within the next three years, so that we will have one when I get out of the military. My wife thought it might be a good idea for her to join the military for a couple of years to, to bring in some much needed extra income. Problem is - they don't let spouses enlist if we have children.

I was thinking that it would be possible to give legal guardianship to her grandmother (who is retired and fully capable of caring for her at age 54) just until my wife gets in the military, at which time we will get guardianship back from the grandmother. Is this possible? And is this the best option? Thank you in advance

you two are trying to sidestep a policy that is in place for a specific reason. not a good idea. for your children.

what if grandma doesn't want to give them back? sounds too much like fraud to me.

I'm confused by this response. As a maternal grandparent with full custody of my granddaughter, I have been told in no uncertain terms in these forums that when/if my daughter ever steps up, she has an excellent shot at taking custody of her daughter. So why would the OP be at risk of never getting her child back from grandma?

i never said he wouldn't have a shot. i know it's fairly easy to get the kids back. but is OP prepared for any negative feelings it might bring up? the kids involved? is grandma able to pull this off without getting attached?

will the children be living with grandma in paper only?
