My friend and co-worker may have gotten this girl pregnant. He has been helping her out but has asked for a DNA test when the baby is born in September. Well the young lady and her mother started asking him for $500 to pay for a baby shower. He said he would help them out but he has 2 other kids. Now the young lady and her mother are texting saying he will not be able to see the child or anything when the baby is born and he cannot get a DNA test she will see him in court. The text messages are crazy and then she calls the workplace with this.

Is this reasonable. Can he be made to pay for expenses when the child isn't born? Will he be able to get a DNA test if she will not consent?

If you want to give her money, it's not child support, it's just a gift.

If you want visitation and a child support judgment entered, then sue her to establish paternity once the kid is born.

Congratulations, pa!!!

This man will not legally be a father until he is named so by a court of law. As was stated any money he gives to this woman is a gift. There is no child, hence no support. He is not a father, again, no support.

Once the baby is born, he can and should petition the court to establish paternity. After he is legally named dad, they will establish custody, visitation and support.

I personally would not fork over a dime until a judge says I have to, but that's jut me. Pay for her shower, how extremely ludicrous:rolleyes:

If Mom wanted putative Dad to pay for stuff before the baby is even born, she should have married him first.:rolleyes:

Ok thanks. I was thinking the same thing. I hosted the shower for my best friend and my God child's mother. I had never heard of the parents or parent and presumed parent hosting their own baby shower. lol No there is no wife he has 2 kids from a previous relationship. I asked the question because he trusts me and I see him stressing at work with the text messages and then she started calling up the place of employment so I said while he's in the warehouse I would find some information for him and research if he needed an attorney.

He is a nice guy and works hard. My opinion was that she is trying to get over because she is unemployed and he has a good job but those were personal feelings and not law.

Miss Manners would be horrified to hear of someone giving themselves a baby shower!

I was "expecting" kiddo's arrival for 10 months and never considered giving myself a baby shower. I was taught it's just not done.

I hate to point this out, but, having miscarried myself, I consider it bad luck to have a shower until the baby is born, or at least very, very far along..

I know! That is just very tacky in my opinion. Just get the things the baby needs. Why throw your own baby shower?

I'm very sorry to hear that! The baby is due in September.

Sad thing about this is he asked if he could talk to me when he went on break and he showed me the text messages or her saying she cheated. She was implying that the baby was not his, but he has a great job and the other prospects and her do not. This is a sad situation, but I have been telling him what you guys advised and hopefully tomorrow he will have time to log on and do some research if he is not pulling overtime.
