What is the name of your state? TX**************....My child support was reduced in june,2007 due to the fact that my son graduated from high school, I also have a daughter that is 17, and she will graduate in June,2008. I get medicaid for both children but the Attorney General takes out 285.00 a month for the medicaid. But I get child support just for my daughter, not my son. I'm a single working mom that needs every penny I can get. Can they do this? Some of that 285.00 can go towards food, since they told me I make to much to get any food stamps(65.00 to much).

Your child support check is reduced for the medicaid? WHO is on medicaid? Your daughter, your son, or you?

Both of my children are on medicaid. I get a certain amout every week for the child support and then an additional amount to cover medical insurance if it was offered with my employer, but it's not, so that is why they are on the medicaid.

So the additional amount is kept by the state to cover the medicaid premiums?

That makes sense... and for 2 kids is probably cheaper than a private policy would be.

Is your son working? Going to college?

Texas has a medicaid buy-in program. She probably makes too much to get it free (since she didn't qualify for food stamps), but is still low enough to do the buy in.

See if you can get their coverage through CHIP instead. If you qualify the premiums are cheaper. I know a lady who was $12 over the income limit and was denied food stamps.

Yup.

In MO, for a family of 4, the highest possible income to qualify for FS is $2167.00/month.

When I was unemployed, my unemployment + child support put me at $2167.30/month.

30 cents over the limit.

What's stupid? Had I made 30 cents less and qualified, I would have received almost $500/month in FS.

My son works full time**************.....Between my pay & the child support I make to much for food stamps. If I don't continue to pay for my son's medicaid then he won't have any medical coverage..Correct? But his portion of his medicaid comes out of my daughter's child support.

He can get coverage through his job. He can get an individual policy. They are taking it from her child support because that is a much easier way then sending you a bill and *hoping* that you pay it.
