What is the name of your state? LA
I just became legal guardian of 16yo. My question is dealing with child support. Before I became guardian I know that the father had not paid any support for at least one year, maybe more. I make a decent living and am personally not worried about any support for the child. My question is so that I can set money asside for things the minor will need in future, college, maybe vehicle. Since I am new to all this I am not sure where I need to start. Do I need to go to family services or what?

you want to try to get child support from the father so you can put it aside for college and such? is that what you are saying? is the mother involved?

BOTH parents are responsible to support their child. If mom is "around" she and dad should share support responsibility for their child while in your custody. If you seek support. seek it from BOTH parents. It is not only the male parent who should be supporting their child.

thanks for the info.. I wasnt sure exactly where to start.. I take it from what I read that the PDF file is what is filled out by Family services.. appears to be a Dept form for contact and follow up.. If I read it correctly. And Yes the support is to be used towards minor, transportation, school, etc.

You might want to put in papers for the back-owed child support, and also help for any bills from pregancy.

Where did I miss the part about anyone being pregnant?
