I live in MS. I usually ask my wife to ask things for me but she said this place doesn't answer step-parents so I'd have to do my own asking from now on. My mother-in-law is now in a wheelchair and drives a special equipped truck. She had an Olds 98 Elite that was just sitting not used. She offered to sell it to me for $185.00 a month. Since my truck broke down and my wife and I had to carpool and she was having to be at work 2 hours early and stay 2 hours late to wait for me every night, I jumped at the chance to buy the car. When I picked up my child friday I was driving the car. My wife won't drive it because she likes her small car and says the big car makes her a nervous wreck. My ex saw the car and threw a fit. Said if I can afford that car I can pay more child support. Said she was going to see her lawyer. Can she do that? The job I have now, I took a $600 a month pay cut but I was laid off and had to have a job. I am still paying the same child support as when I had the better paying job. If I figured right, I should be paying $99 a month child support based on my income, but I am still paying $300 a month. I am still looking for another job, but I had to have some income in the meantime.

If you are working at a new job because of a lay off...the court will input you NEW income which if it is lower could result in a decrease in CS for her...so I say let her do it...in could work out for the best for you anyway. Good Luck!

I agree with shanney, you have nothing to worry about. You're allowed to have a vehicle and you don't need to explain how you got it.
