What is the name of your state?Texas

i need help with my 16 year old.He is wanting to live with his dad after i have raised him with no child support from the dad.We live 220 miles apart,he has told me hes tired of crap at home he spends more time with Grandparents than with dad. They are pushing me to sign the papers to have him enrolled over there in Austin. I dont know if its a good idea for me to do that.He has had a lot of anger built up and lashing out with everyone in the household i thought about telling him ive raised you this long without the support of your father and i would rather you finish school here then after you graduate you can go do what you want.should I?He blames everyone but himself for actions.I am also afraid if i let him go they wont let him come back.He said he only wants to go for this year. His dad owes $38,000 in back child support.I dont want him to hate me but hi9s dad has a tendency to disappear for 2-3 days at a time and has done drugs in the past. Also he is remarried and if stepmom claims him on taxes would i get the tax return or would they get it,and could they take me to court to pay child support even though he owes. Please help lots of questions before i make a decision!!
Thank you

at the age of 16 your son has the right to tell the court who he would prefer to live with. However it is still up to the judge to decide whether or not to let the child have their way. If the court sides with your son then yes they can make you pay child support even though he owes you and they can and more than likely will give the tax credit to them since he will live there. You will still claim him for the current year because he has resided with you more than six months of this year already but they would get him for all future years. And they don't have to give you any of the money.

Granted you only have two years left before he is an adult and can do what he wants.

Have you considered getting him into counseling for his anger issues?

You can refuse to sign the papers and let it go before a judge if you so choose. But if you do sign those papers I don't honestly expect that your son will move back to your home next year. There is a lot going on here and personally I would get a counselor involved to help.

child wanting to live with dad

yes i have considered getting him into couseling thats why i kind of want to make him stay at home.He said he would go but not this year he wants to stay with his dad this year. But again im afraid i wont get him back with me and he wont get the help he needs. His grandparents seem to try to take more control on him and they didnt do right by their son(my ex) when he has anger problems and into drugs and i just dont think its good for him to be around.
