I just got an owi (In wisconsin) and court is in 2 weeks. With the exception of a speeding ticket, I have a clean record. Losing my license will be a huge pain because I work two jobs and am in school full time and don't live near campus or have a reliable bus line. Worse than that is that I cannot afford to pay the increase in insurance so even when I do get my license back I would not be able to drive. I will more than likely have ot move and quit one of my jobs. I was wondering if there is anything I could do to try and get out of a conviction considering my clean record. There is a blood test and I was obviously in the wrong, but I don't know if there are any deals that could be worked out. Also, if I can't get out of it, I was wondering if I could stall it by pleading not guilty. Does pleading not guilty and then being convicted later mean any further consequences (financial, etc.)than if I pleading guilty or no contest? P.S. I cannot afford a lawyer.

First, you need to get a lawyer. Find one that will let you make payments. If this is your first OWI you may not loose your license, however there is no way out of SR22 insurance. Don't tell the insurance company...let them find out on there own, and maybe they will never find out. Drunk Driving is no joke anymore and there is practically no way out of them. Good Luck to you!!!
