I am a divorced woman. When the divorce was finalized the house and property remained in both names. How can I make certain my half ownership goes to my daughter without my ex-husbands signature? Also, I would like my partner to be able to live in the house as long as he needs.

I'm not an attorney so I can't tell you what to do about the title on your home but I can tell you this--regarding your partner having the right to live there in the event of your demise-think of the can of worms you might be opening under certain circumstances--does your daughter have a good relationship with your partner--are there items in the house you would specifical want your daughter to have--how would your daughter feel down the road to see your partner living there with someone else--wouldn't it be better for you and your partner at this time to just sell the home, get a new place for you and your partner-put any profit from the sale that you want your daughter to have in a trust for her or give it to her outright if she is of age to handle it wisely--I am speaking from experience--my son's father died 2 months ago and it has become a real mess--he had a live-in--if you have any questions about the nightmare that is going on here you can e-mail me at recycbride@aol.com and I will enlighten you at great length.

Thank you for a fast reply. Yes, my daughter has good relationship with my partner, however he would not plan to stay here for very long. I just wouldn't want my ex to kick him out before he could re-locate. My main worry is leaving my half ownership to her as I don't trust my ex to do the right thing by her. Shortly before my mother passed away she was "talked into" cashing in a savings account she had started when my daughter was born. As a result, she received nothing. I don't want that to happen when I die. I would like to have her name added to deed before that happens, but ex won't agree. I need another way to protect her rights.
