We are in the process of building a comparison shopping web site. For this purpose we will be gathering product specifications and pricing for various products from manufacturer websites. Are these product specs and pricing information considered manufacturer copyrights? If so do I need to get an authorization from the manufacturer before we display this information on our website.

We would also like to include product images - would including that in our service be considered a copyright violation?

Even though we will be providing this service free to consumers, we expect to make money via advertising.

Facts cannot be copyrighted, so these specs and pricing would likely not be covered by copyright. However, the layout and organization and fonts and the like might, so you would want to put the information into your own format.

Unless you took the picture yourself, or have permission to use the picture, it would be copyright infringement.
