What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maryland

Hi as a hobby i've started writing music for film/media and i want to protect my personal assets for any liabilities that could occur from such acts. I think i would be considered an agent as opposed to employee---if i remember law school still, i think this would protect me from any liabilities my employr may incur in these projects im involved in. And im not worried about contract disputes on my music. I am concerned w copyright suits for any music i may write. Or if im missing anything else, my real concern is not getting drawn into a lawsuit, and if i was, not jeopardizing my personal assets---frankly my real life is not worth losing.

So my question: would running my music/composing business thru an LLC protect my personal life/assets from these liabilities? Another question---am i being overly paranoid about this and the llc is overkill? I can just see a copyright owner w a law firm on retainer as a looming threat. Not that i plan on ripping off other people's music but u never knowWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

To supplement, i think forming an LLC is a good idea at some point if this really becomes something i do a lot. But i just started doing this and frankly the small income that may come out of it might not even cover all the LLC registration/licensing fees.

In my opinion its overkill at this point.

If your actions cause a copyright violation, you will be sued. Saying you are an agent or employee of a company is not going to be a defense.
