What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I run a very small computer company, where I go to homes or offices and help people with their PCs. I have also built and sold new computers, as well as upgrades. With New computers I have a written 1 year warraty which the consumer is welcome to read BEFORE purchasing and after. For used it is 30 days.
2 issues:
The first one... I buit a computer for a woman and her son 2 years ago. Have been there several times to upgrade or clean and maintain the PC. This year, before Christmas, she wanted a full upgrade without buying new. I replaced everything she aske me to, and since this wasa customer I knew, allowed her to make payments. She always made me wiat for payment. 24 hours after they got the upgraded compter, she had a virus. We went and fixed it for free, even though we were under no obligation to do so. 2 weeks later, they had another virus. We went and re-formatted the PC, re-loaded, showed them how to prevent these problems. Again, she had some type of software problem, we fixed it again. We did all of this without asking for payment, and it was more than 30 days. She still has not paid. Now she issaying that the computer never worked and that she is not paying us. These were all software problems which are not overed by warranty,so we told her that if she did not pay us the full amount (which was only $100 more) that we ould no longer support her - unless it was hardware related. She won't pay, and wants MY lo\awyers name - she won't pay for her own.
2nd issue -
Worked on a customers computer trying to fix it. It was old, and the repairs were going to be more expensive than the computer was worth. They had already paid around $100 for repairs. We offered them a used computer which was better than theirs for $250 (it was worth more) which theyagreed to. Again, knowing the customer we allowed payments. We made sure the computer was upgraded and in working order. Within 2 weeks, they had viruses and pornography on it. Now they claim that the computer never worked. Instead of having us replace parts (it needed a new memory module) theytook it to a different shop - which voids the warranty. The new shop told them they should buy one of their new computers. They won't pay, but want us to support them, and GivE them a Widows ME disk, which i already gave them. We were trying tosave them money, we helped them and when they didn't understand what porn and viruses can do, they got mad at us. In 10 years, these are the only two clients we have had trouble with.
