Hello. I’m sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong location.

Quick backstory:
I went onto a cam to cam website. On the site you pay models to perform for you.

It’s a pay by the minute service. You enter in your name, email and credit card details. From there you’re billed for the time you use.

I used it once and decided the website wasn’t for me. It seems as though a lot of the models on the site were using prerecorded videos and the service wasn’t live as it promised. It made me feel a bit uneasy actually. I started to think it was a scam.

I went to close the account and I all of a sudden had a message stating that I owed about $120. I checked my bank account and it appears as though some of the funds were taking out for some video calls, but not all. I don’t know why some were taken out and some werent

The next day I received an email advising:

“Our records show you still have an outstanding balance due. Please mail the amount shown to the address listed below.
Please send a cashier's check or money order in US funds payable to: ICF Technology, Inc”

I panicked as it made me think it was a scam and I both cancelled my account with the website and reported my credit card as lost, so they cancelled it and are issuing me a new one.

I was hoping to find out the repercussions of not paying what they think I owe. Also, how does it generally work, would they contact my bank or a debt collector?

Thank you

You could be sued for the balance owing. You could receive a demand notice or two first. If you only owe $120, it is probably unlikely that a professional debt collector will become involved in any collection activity.

I’ve decided to contact their ‘parent’ company. If it all seems legitimate I’ll pay it. I don’t think I can be bothered arguing about the false cam service. I am a bit nervous about making the payment though, and it going into the right hands.

I don’t know if I’m asking a question that’s not really legal advice, but If I do decide to not pay them, can a company take any action against my bank? Can they use my old credit card details?

That's a question for your bank. Would the bank honor a charge on a closed account? If it did, you wouldn't be able to dispute it because you lied about the reason for closing the account.

"Subscriptions" are often carried over to new credit card accounts as a "convenience" when you report your card lost.
