What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY
Hi, I became unemployed last year and a colleague recommended I add my resume to Careerbuilder and Monster.com
I was reluctant to add my info on the internet, but I filtered to remove my address and info that could be used for identity theft.
It turns out recruiters steal the resume info online and blast it out to every job they find on the internet that matches your skill set. They hope to get a bonus for their recruitment efforts. However, it hurts your employment opportunities because if your name is associated with a recruiter or is in conflict with representation of many recruiters, HR will toss your resume. More importantly, I don't want a recruiter sending my resume out for hundreds of job applications and anything else they store the info for.
Is there a way to ask "recruiters" who have my resume not to use it without my consent.
The month after adding my resume online, I was bombarded with contract offers from recruiters. The recruiters always asked me to send them my resume. I always asked if they were direct recruiters for the organization and they told me they were. A couple also asked for last four digits of my social.
Many of the recruiters I spoke with had an indian accent and had a business address associated with tech recruiting.
Some were americans working for "veterans group support corp".
It turned out none of these contracts were legit.
After one indian woman asked for my resume, I asked where exactly she was located. She referred to a U.S. recruitment center but when I prompted further, she told me she was working offshore.
