What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

I represent a band who has entered into a contract with a record label. Thus far the label has done little to nothing for the band. They have recently finished recording their upcoming release and are getting ready to deliver the final mixes to the label.

Here is my question. On the contract between the label and the band one of the band members' names was typed as his full legal name and when he signed it he signed with the shortened version of his name. Such as if my name was Zachary and I signed it as Zach. Is this a loophole that we can use to breach the contract without any recourse from the label? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Ok, so what if in the contract it states that the label must approve in writing the producer that is to be used for the recording of the album and written approval was never done. Do we have to deliver any final mixes that the band independently paid for without the aid or written approval of the label?

As the Great Antigone said, it makes no difference on the signature. Some people sign with "X".

Why would you breaching your contract allow you to escape your duties under the contract?

The condition was yours. If they wanted to, they could waive the condition.

Basically the guys are wanting to leave the label as the label so far has done nothing to help them out. We understand that a label's job is to put out albums, but there are other things that have been told to us that the label has yet to deliver on.

Worst case scenario, what are the possible legal repercussions if the band decides not to deliver the final mixes?
