What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

I read the Poor Man's Copyright may not hold up in court and some places say it will. So will it? If not, what is your suggestion to copyright 10-12 songs? I don't have much money hence the title "Poor Man's Copyright" but if there is a cheap way to do it, please let me know. I'd like to post lyrics on my website and send to people, but I don't want to risk losing anything if it is not protected.

Do what I do, I put all the songs in a songbook and copyright the entire book.

It brings me to http://www.copyright.gov/ after clicking Library of Congress' Copyright ... so do I do it through them? If so, I have a few questions.

1. How can I copyright multiple songs (lyrics and music) without sending in 12 different applications?

2. How much will 12 songs (lyrics and music) take to copyright?

3. You said you put your songs into one book and copyright the book. Can I do this and all songs (lyrics and music) are protected or do I need to copyright all songs seperatley?

I am 16 and new to the copyrighting stuff. I'd like to start copyrighting my music so that I can start doing shows, knowing I won't be screwed over.

Thanks!

Your songs are automatically copyrighted when you write them down.
You want to register your copyrights.
I think its form PA and I believe you can register a collection of songs under 1 title, like "songs 2005".
I think the fee is $30 per submission, thats 1 song or 30.
Read up a little on the site cause I haven't done a batch for a while... :)
