What is the name of your state? North Carolina

I have begun receiving correspondence from Countrywide regarding a home equity loan that I paid off and closed in 2001. They have indicated that I owe them $4600 due to an error at payoff (when I refinanced with them and the second loan is paid off as well).

My credit report now reflects an account 120+ past due and a $4600 balance when it previously showed closed and paid as agreed. My FICO score has dropped from 789 to 642.

I have a letter from countrywide dated nov 2001 stating the account was closed and paid in full and I have the cancelled mortgage as well. Do they have any standing to ask me or this money 3 years later and with the documentation that I have???

Great, one of my mortgages just got transferred to Countrywide too and I've already noticed a mistake on their part.

A: Yes. Send them a certified letter, return receipt requested asking them to validate the debt. Send photo copies of all the stuff you have showing it has been paid off. Keep copies of everything. Do not relent till your credit has been repaired.

I am NOT a creditor-debtor lawyer. Stay tuned for further responses.
