What is the name of your state? VA

Received collection notice from Westmoreland re: debt charged off 12/90. Statute of limitations is clearly expired, so I could send a cease and desist, but because the debt was before '97 amendments to FCRA, are they likely to put the debt back on my credit report?

The letter offers me the "opporunity" to settle the debt for half of the original amount. If I do this, will it be truly settled or will they reopen the debt? Also, are they likely to re-report it as above if I pay? It looks a bit like a catch-22 to me, that I'm likely to get this back on my credit report regardless of which action I take.

Anyone have experience with a similar situation?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

That may well be; however, it does not answer the main point of the questions. Will this appear on my credit report if I send a cease and desist?
