What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California and Florida

My neice lives in Florida, and I am in California

She is apparently behind in student loan payments in Florida. She claims she just came out of delinquency. She states that she gave my phone number to the creditor years ago when she was applying, as a reference.

Today I received a call on my cell asking that I ask her to call their 800-number. I called the 800-number to tell them I am not responsible for her, nor do I have any influence over her actions. All I got were recordings asking me to press 1 for to sign-up for cellular service. When I did not, I was asked to sign-up for direct TV, then insurance. I texted her to tell her I received this message. She recognized this number as someone she calls about the debt. I then called the number that originated the call, it went directly to a voice-mail box. I left a message to the effect that I know her, but am not responsibe for her, her debts, or her actions. I also asked them to leave me alone, and to contact her directly. Will they now leave me alone, or should I put their number on block?

Thank you for your time!!!

Go ahead and block their number, and tell your niece to stop giving out your number.
